County
Zoning
A Report from your County Board
Few subjects get the attention this one does. The county board policy on
zoning? There is no policy. Our Board members are examining options and
looking at what other nearby
counties are doing. We realize as a general rule, county residents do not want zoning,
however, they also do not want a landfill next door either. Because of no zoning rules in
most rural sections of the county the board is powerless to prevent a landfill or other
potentially "undesirable" businesses from locating next door to you. The Board
also expects that at some point, State of Illinois guidelines and law will force us to
enact some provisions in this regard. By examining options now, we hope to make this
transition as seamless and painless as possible when this happens.
Keep in mind, your County Board will publicize well in
advance any discussions leading to enacting or bringing this subject up for a referendum.
Currently, we do discuss zoning issues from time-to-time at our meetings and are looking
for solutions in this area. There are no current plans to bring this up for a referendum
in the near future.
This is a highly complex and emotional issue for our citizens
- your County Board, elected by you, will represent your interests on
this issue.
